Why most soundwave tattoos cannot play
Most soundwave tattoo generators draw a waveform from your audio and let you download it. It is a beautiful picture of the sound — but only a picture: no phone can turn the shape back into the voice. A soundwave tattoo plays only when it is linked to its recording. There are three ways it is done:

Is the soundwave tattoo generator free?
Making and testing the design is: upload or record the voice, choose a style, and scan it with your phone, all without paying or signing up. To download the artwork for your artist, you keep the glyph with one payment — 3 credits per 30 seconds of recording, at 1 USD a credit. A 30-second phrase is 3 credits. There is no yearly fee.

Only if the tattoo is linked to its recording. A waveform on its own is a picture of a sound — no phone can turn the shape back into the voice. A TraceSound glyph carries its link in its own shape, so a phone that scans it fetches the recording and plays it.
How a soundwave tattoo playsDo I need an app to play it?
No. Anyone opens tracesound.com/scan in a modern phone browser and points the camera at the tattoo. No app, no account — just an internet connection.
How long should the recording be?
Short. One phrase, one laugh, one “I love you” — a few seconds is plenty, and you can trim a longer recording to just that part. The price follows the length, too.
What size should the tattoo be?
Big enough that its fine lines do not merge as the ink settles. Print the artwork at the size you plan, hold it where it will go and scan it: if it scans easily from a comfortable distance, the size is right.
Size, contrast and healingCan it be tattooed in colour?
The camera reads contrast, not colour, so dark ink on skin scans best. Every colour in the studio is checked for contrast against paper, but skin is darker than paper — ask your artist for the deepest shade of the colour you chose, and test a print against your skin first.
Can my artist change the design?
The style and colour you chose, yes. The code at the heart of the glyph must be copied exactly — ask your artist to trace the downloaded artwork rather than redraw it by eye.
Will TraceSound play my Skin Motion tattoo?
No. Each company’s tattoos are drawn for its own scanner. If you still have the original recording, you can make a TraceSound glyph from it.
