First, make sure the recording is safe
Before anything else, get a copy of their voice somewhere it cannot be cleared out. Look in:
- Voicemail. On an iPhone, open Phone → Voicemail, choose the message and share it to Files. On Android it depends on the phone and the carrier — look for a save or share option.
- Voice notes. Messages in WhatsApp, Messenger and similar apps can usually be forwarded or saved as files.
- Videos. A clip of them talking or laughing is a recording too. The studio takes the sound out of the video on your own device, so the video itself is never uploaded.
- An old phone. Copy everything off it before it is reset, traded in or its line is closed.

What to write beside it
When you print the glyph, a few words beside it tell people whose voice it is. If you are not sure where to start:
- Their name and their years — “Margaret Ellis · 1941–2025”
- The words they always said — “Call me when you get home.”
- “Still with me, in a different way.”
- “Your voice, always.”
For a print others will scan — on a memorial table, say — add a short line such as “Scan at tracesound.com/scan”.
Kept, not rented
Most soundwave art that plays a voice does it with a QR code, which holds nothing but a link — the voice lives wherever the seller put it, for as long as they keep it there. A voice you have lost once should never be lost again to a dead link or a missed payment.

Can I use a voicemail from someone who has passed away?
Yes — it is the most common reason people come to us. Upload the voicemail, a voice memo or a video of them talking. Save a copy of the file first, somewhere safe: voicemails can be lost when a phone is replaced or a line is closed.
How to save a voicemail before it is lostWill it sound like them, or is it AI?
It is them. TraceSound keeps the real recording — their breath, their accent, their pauses. We never recreate a voice with text-to-speech or AI voice cloning.
The recording is short, quiet or noisy. Will it still work?
Usually, yes — a few seconds is enough, and you can trim it to just the part you want. Make the glyph and scan it before you pay anything, so you hear exactly what you would keep.
What does it cost?
You pay once for the glyph, priced by the length of the recording: 3 credits per 30 seconds, and a credit is always 1 USD. A 30-second voicemail is 3 credits. There is no subscription and no renewal fee.

Yes. Once you keep a glyph, download its artwork as an SVG — a vector file that stays sharp at any size — or as a high-resolution PNG, and print it on paper, a card or a canvas. Print it at the size you will use, and scan it once before framing.
Does the person scanning need an app?
No. They open tracesound.com/scan in any modern phone browser and point the camera at the glyph. No app and no account — just an internet connection.
Can every family member have a copy?
Yes. Send the artwork to everyone who wants it — print it, frame it or tattoo it as many times as you like, and every copy plays the same voice. You pay for the glyph once.
Who can hear the recording?
Anyone who scans one of its glyphs — which is what lets a print on a memorial table play for every guest. The key cannot be guessed, but it can be copied from the glyph, so only put one where you are happy for it to be heard.
Does TraceSound make physical keepsakes?
Soon. The glyph you keep now is the one they will carry, so there is nothing to redo when they arrive.
What happens to the voice if TraceSound shuts down?
Every owner would get at least 3 months’ notice by email and a copy of each of their recordings, and the collection would pass — with the Forever Fund — to a successor or an archive. You can also download the audio at any time.
